Short Answer: ❌ No.
Long Answer: ✅ Let’s Talk About It.
One of the most common questions we get from students and parents in the Faith Christian Academy is: “Do I have to write in cursive in my workbooks?”
The answer is ❌ No—cursive is not required, even though some of the workbooks instruct students to use it.
📉 The Decline of Cursive Writing
Cursive writing was once a fundamental part of education, but in recent decades, its use has steadily declined. Here are some key statistics:
📌 Only 21% of students use cursive regularly (National Center for Education Statistics).
📌 Many schools no longer require cursive instruction, and some states don’t include it in their education standards at all.
📌 In today’s digital world, most communication is typed 💻 instead of handwritten ✏️.
✨ Why Cursive is Still Important
Even though cursive is not required at Faith Christian Academy, we still highly recommend learning it. Here’s why:
✅ Faster Writing – Cursive helps you write quickly and efficiently. 📝
✅ Better Signature – Signing important documents ✍️ is an essential life skill.
✅ Reading Historical Documents – Many old writings, including family letters 📜 and U.S. historical documents 🏛️, are in cursive.
✅ Boosts Brain Power – Studies show cursive helps with memory and fine motor skills 🧠.
🤔 What Should Students Do?
While we won’t require cursive writing in workbooks, we encourage students to practice it when possible. If the workbook tells you to write in cursive but you’re more comfortable with print, it’s okay to use print instead. The most important thing is to complete your work neatly and legibly. ✅
Below are some examples of workbook pages that request cursive writing and what that looks like in practice. (Insert photos here 📸).
At Faith Christian Academy, we value both tradition and practicality. We want students to be well-equipped for the future, whether that includes cursive or not! 🎓
